If you’re a student who does not possess any driving licence whatsoever, you are a ‘Beginner’ and will need to register for 40 classes in order to pass and obtain your UAE driving licence.
No, if you already have a licence from your home country that is between 2-5 years old, then you will be required to take 30 classes.
When you register, you have the option of choosing either an Automatic or a Manual gear transmission for your driving lessons. If you choose the Manual gear option and pass the driving test, as a Manual licence holder, you can drive both manual as well as automatic vehicles. Please note that Automatic licence holders can only drive automatic vehicles; they are forbidden from driving manual vehicles.
Yes, there is a pre-evaluation test for those registered for 20 and 30 classes to evaluate their driving skills.
If you have a valid GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia) driving licence, you will need to attend 2 theory lectures at the beginning of the course and then pass the RTA Knowledge test, Parking test, and the Road test.
Yes, if you hold a valid UAE driving licence and need a confidence boost or practice your driving skills if you haven’t been driving for a while, you can apply for our Refresher course. This package includes 8 practical training classes though you can take a minimum of 4 classes.
If you have a valid driving licence from any other emirate other than Dubai, you will first need to get your driving file transferred from that respective emirate to Dubai RTA before opening a file for any vehicle category.
If you have any traffic fines in your name, you will need to clear them first and only then open a file.

If you are a pilot or cabin crew of only ‘Emirates Airline’ with a valid home country licence, you can directly undergo the Theory test and the Parking test. Upon clearing these tests, you can proceed to the Road test. If you do not have a home country licence, you will need to register for the 40 classes. If you are a pilot or cabin crew of other airlines, you will need to register as regular students and attend the 20/30/40 classes – whatever is applicable.
Residents with a valid driving licence from selected 33 countries can convert their driving licence at RTA office. Those having nationalities and driving licences of Kuwait, Saudi, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Germany, France, Ireland, Holland, Italy, Britain, *Turkey, *Greece, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Romania, Finland, Portugal, **Luxembourg, **Slovakia, **China, *Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, *South Korea, *Japan, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa can convert their driving licence into a Dubai Driving Licence at the RTA office. Citizens of those countries indicated by a star (*) are required to get a translation of their licence from their Consulate and those from countries indicated by two stars (**) are required to submit a translated letter from any authorised legal translation office. The required documents for conversion are a valid original driving licence, valid residence visa issued by Dubai, a completed form for replacement of licence, a No Objection letter from the sponsor to replace licence and an Optometry form accredited by the health authority in the Emirate.
